Where Misunderstood Canines Come to Feel Safe & Supported.

The Scallywag Dog

At The Scallywag Dog, we help misunderstood “scallywag” dogs and their guardians feel safe, seen, and supported through trauma-informed, science-based behavior work. Based in Denver, Colorado and working virtually across the United States, we specialize in fear, aggression, reactivity, and stress support. In addition to behavior modification and training, we serve as an education hub for bully breed advocacy—helping communities learn through fact rather than fiction.

Our approach blends animal behavior science with warmth, compassion, and positive reinforcement so dogs with big feelings can move through the world with more confidence and ease. Whether your dog carries overwhelm, uncertainty, or a complex history, we’re here to support both ends of the leash in finding more peace, connection, and joy together.

What We Do

A white and tan dog with a black nose looking up at the camera, standing on a sidewalk with a person wearing blue jeans and sneakers behind it.

Trauma-Informed, Science-Based Behavior Support: We specialize in helping dogs with fear, aggression, reactivity, and stress feel safer in their bodies and environments. Our methods focus on emotional wellbeing first because behavior is communication. Once the root cause of the behaviors is addressed, life gets a lot less complicated and a lot more fun

Who We Help

A woman kneeling on the beach with a brown dog, both smiling and enjoying the shore. The woman is wearing sunglasses, a black tank top, and denim shorts. The dog is standing with a collar and leash, near the water with waves in the background.

For the Misunderstood & Sensitive: Whether your dog is worried, weary, reactive, or anywhere in between, we assist dogs who carry complex histories and big emotions. Every dog deserves to feel safe, understood, and supported no matter their background, breed, or story.

Our Approach

Compassionate, Humane, and Rooted in Behavior Science: Our approach centers on empathy, body language, and understanding the “why” behind behavior. Through humane, science-based guidance, we create space for dogs to feel more regulated, supported, and connected—so both ends of the leash can move forward with confidence.

Championing the Scallywags of the World

From blocky-headed pitties to misunderstood mixes, we stand proudly with the dogs who are too often labeled before they’re known. Through science-backed guidance, stigma-free education, and compassionate advocacy, we help rewrite their stories one fact, one family, and one wag at a time.
